MOTOR INDUSTRY PUBLIC AFFAIRS ASSOCIATION


The Motor Industry Public Affairs Association (MIPAA) helps communicators within the motor industry work more effectively by providing training, workshops, events and opportunities for networking. 
MIPAA Limited was incorporated as a non-profit company, limited by guarantee, on 4 November 2005.  It builds on the foundations of an organisation created in 1968 by 13 original members. The 460-strong membership represents individuals and consultancy groups, as well as manufacturers, importers and other institutions connected with the industry, in the UK and overseas.

Members can login to access an online directory and exclusive JobSearch service.  Personal usernames and passwords have been issued to members who have paid their 2006 subscription. 
Select media may access the online database of PRs in the motor industry - please contact the General Secretary for details.

Mazda is looking for a PR Co-ordinator at its European head office in Germany - see advert.  VW has a vacancy for a Press Information Officer working out of Milton Keynes and Honda UK Motorcycles is looking for someone with a great 'can-do' attitude and aptitude for PR and broader communications activity (working on a freelance basis on a 12 month contract) in its Slough office.  Details of these and other opportunities are featured in the membership area (contact Heather Yaxley for your personal log-in).  JobSearch is open to non-members for a 12 week period for a fee of £25 - email hyaxley at supanet dot com.

For the third year, MIPAA takes a crystal ball to the topic of new media, and this year, we've extended the invitation to members of the Guild of Motoring Writers, who share the need to keep up to date with online developments. Learning objectives for the day are to improve your understanding of the latest trends, identify opportunities for digital communications and enhance relationships with bloggers and journalists specialising in online media.

Big 40 for MIPAA

  2008 marks the 40th anniversary since the founding of the original Spoke 'n' Wheel group that is today, MIPAA Limited.  The initial idea of a network of public relations practitioners in the motor industry is as relevant today as back in 1968.  So a busy programme of events, workshops, social activities and networking opportunities will mark this special year.  Check out the online calendar and news on this site throughout the year for further details of how you can get involved.

Andy Francis takes on JobSearch

MIPAA Operating Committee member, Andy Francis of Performance PR has taken over JobSearch from Jeremy Clarke from 1 February 2008.  Andy is looking forward to helping existing MIPAA members find career challenges, or fill their exciting vacancies.  He is also working on plans to expand role of JobSearch to attract talented practitioners from outside the motor industry, who can benefit from the service for a £25 fee for 12 weeks' support (contact Heather Yaxley - hyaxley at supanet dot com - for more information).

In his time managing JobSearch, Jeremy Clarke posted 100 job vacancies and helped dozens of MIPAA members take up new roles in the industry.

New Executive Committee announced

Members have elected their 2008 MIPAA Limited Executive Committee (EC) comprising Mark Harrison (BMW), Gabi Whitfield (Nissan), Phil Hale (PRISM) and Steve Carman (NoBull Communications).  Peter Haynes (Automotive PR) narrowly missed out on a place on the EC this year.

Announcing the results at the MIPAA Christmas lunch at the Kensington Roof Gardens on 6 December, chairman Mark Harrison outlined a busy year ahead as the organisation celebrates its 40th anniversary.  The first job of the new EC will be to appoint an Operating Committee (OC) to help drive forward the planned activities.  All members are eligible to put themselves forward to be part of the team and are asked to contact General Secretary, Heather Yaxley by 31 December 2007 to express their interest.

New student placement initiative

MIPAA is inviting students undertaking their University placement year in a PR role in the motor industry to apply for a new two year associate membership - 'MIPAA Nippers', which is available free of charge to those whose applications are approved by the Executive Committee.  Download: application_form
